Meet the children of Mikindani

In the western parts of Mombasa, Kenya, lies a slum area called Mikindani. During three weeks I was stationed there to photograph and write an article about a school in the area. Despite the truly terrible living conditions these people have, the children never loses their spirits and are always joyful and laughing.

Thanks to the charity of others, these children gets an otherwise inaccessible start in life through education, social activities, and last but not least, food. The poverty in Mikindani is widespread, so without the school I was working for life would be a great struggle to say the least. Many of the families in the area struggle to afford to feed their children at home, so to get such an aid through school is a pure blessing.
